Fresno school district approves a more relaxed school dress code policy.
The new dress code does not mention how a student should look. It requires personal cleanliness and for students to wear clothes suitable for school activities without presenting a health or safety hazard.
The previous school dress code is from 1993. This is an old and outdated code. After parents complained about the existing dress code, Fresno Unified has voted 6-1 to adopt the new, more relaxed dress code policy.
Trustees are concerned the looser school dress code will cause PE safety issues, or not preparing graduates to be career-ready.
The new code also prohibits kids from being suspended or expelled from school for violating the new dress code.
